Keme Balogun College defeated Coker Junior Secondary school 3-2 to lift the 2017 Copa Coca-Cola for Lagos State.
Tolulope Oyenuga’s hat-trick powered the Ikorodu based school past the Orile-Igamu outfit in a pulsating encounter played at the Fifa Goal Project pitch, National Stadium, Lagos.
After a quiet start to the match, an unchanged Coker side took the lead in spectacular fashion through Precious Mbakasi in the ninth minute. But the lead lasted for just 30 seconds as Oyenuga equalised for his side.
The striker almost got a second a few moments later, only to be denied by goalkeeper an Ahmed Usman’s point blank save following some neat footwork and a clever exchange with Ozum Anayo, who lashed over from the rebound.
Coker Jnr School raced into the lead in the 15th minute through captain Ibrahim Mauk who riffled in his free-kick past ill-starred Olabanji Adeleye.
Seven minutes into the second half, Oyenuga was on hand to level scores, tapping home at the back post following Michael Chistopher’s flick-on.
Competition’s MVP Oyenuga had the final say with a gracious strike. The no. 11 profited from a moment of carelessness from Coker’s defence to slot past Usman.
Despite a late surge, Keme Balogun held firm to emerge as champions – and will now represent Lagos in the regional finals to commence on June 1.
